Service Business

What do you associate the Table Mountains with? Certainly, many of us now have Errant Rocks in front of our eyes, which is of course the correct association, but it is worth knowing that you can see many more attractive tourist places. What to see in the Stołowe Mountains? We give advice in this article!

The Table Mountains - what is worth seeing?

The Table Mountains are an ideal place for tourists. There are many places worth seeing. Everyone will find something amazing for themselves. What cannot be missed during the trip?

Błędne Skały area of strict protection

The Table Mountains are definitely very attractive to tourists - such plate mountains cannot be found in many places on our continent. Errant Rocks are the most popular place. This area covers an area of approximately 22 hectares, and is located at an altitude of 853 m above sea level. It cannot be denied that the rock formations created in this place are an amazing sight. Some of the rocks are up to 11 meters high.

Errant Rocks are not only the above forms, but also a lot of rock labyrinths with very narrow gaps in places. The walls of the labyrinth are up to several meters. The impressions are certainly unique. Although there are definitely no places for people who suffer from claustrophobia, it is worth emphasizing, because the width of some corridors is several dozen centimeters.

In this area, it is also worth going to the "Skalne Czasze" platform, which is an excellent vantage point. You can see, for example, Szczeliniec Wielki - the highest peak of the Table Mountains.

It is also worth recalling a curiosity related to this place. Andrew Adamson - the director of The Chronicles of Narnia - was so delighted with Errant Rocks that he used the landscapes of this place in two parts. In The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, he brought the Table Mountains shots to the studio, while in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, he took it a step further and some scenes were recorded live there. In Errant Rocks you can feel for a moment like in a fairy-tale Narnia.

Szczeliniec Wielki

We have already mentioned Szczeliniec Wielki above, which is the highest peak in the Stołowe Mountains. It is located in the Stołowe Mountains National Park at an altitude of 919 m above sea level. Interestingly, this place could not be reached in any way, but this mountain has always interested people who built as many as 665 stairs leading to the top, on which a shelter was built.

The view from the top is amazing and breathtaking. The vast panorama allows us to see the Giant Mountains, the Stone Mountains, the Owl Mountains and the Broumov Walls, which are already on the Czech side.

Tourists can also enjoy a beautiful view during sunrises and sunsets, which are truly spectacular.

Chapel of skulls

However, beautiful views and nature are not all that should be marked on your excursion map. An unusual place that will surely make many people shiver is the Skull Chapel. What is this place?

The chapel is breathtaking - but not because of the beautiful views, but rather because of the terror. Its interior is completely lined with… human remains. It is estimated that there are currently over 3,000 of these remains and bones, and in addition, under the floor, there is a 2-meter-high crypt with an additional over 20,000 remains, with which it is filled from floor to ceiling.

The Skull Chapel is located at the foot of the Table Mountains in Czermna. Why such an unusual way of "decorating" it? Well, in the 18th century, the parish priest Wacław Tomaszek and the gravedigger found the graves of the victims of epidemics and battles in the area. They wanted to commemorate the deceased in this way. The parish priest disinfected, impregnated and prepared the bones for eight years. He worked on the entire project for thirty years! This is still nothing - after his death, the aforementioned parish priest and gravedigger wanted to be part of this unusual exhibition, so you can also see their remains. It is a fascinating and terrifying place at the same time.

Charles Fort

The last place we will present is the Charles Fort. Interestingly, it is not a popular place, so it is an ideal proposition for people who do not like crowds and prefer to avoid them. Charles Fort dates back to the 18th century. At that time, its function was to protect the Austro-Prussian border. When it was abandoned, it began to deteriorate.

Today we can admire only its fragments - the gate, window and stairs have been preserved. An interesting place is the viewing platform, which is located in the courtyard. There is a pedestal embedded in it, on which the sides of the world are marked. Far from the hustle and bustle, such a place will surely find its supporters.

The Table Mountains are the perfect idea for a holiday vacation. They will be a great choice for anyone who loves mountain hiking, beautiful panoramas, nature and history. Tones of emotion can be added by narrow rock labyrinths or the mentioned - really unusual and original - the Skull Chapel.
