Infographics - how to create them yourself?
Do you have to be a professional and educated graphic designer to create an infographic? If so far you thought that you did not have the skills and competences to design something really good and effective yourself, then you were very wrong. Contrary to appearances, creating an infographics is not that difficult, and the effect can be really surprising. The possibilities are practically endless, you just need to know what you want to present and convey to your recipients. You can implement many marketing activities yourself and thus save money. Well-known and large enterprises usually outsource all their projects to external companies. Infographics - where to start and how to create them?
Why are infographics created?
The art of good communication between the seller and the customer is properly communicated information. It happens that it is too complicated and there is a problem, e.g. with the description of the operation of a certain device or its use. Sometimes it seems to us that what we have decided to describe will force us to create a long text with which we will bore our clients. In order to avoid such situations, an infographic has just been created that allows you to convey complex and long information in a graphic form. In this way, we move away from writing extensive, incomprehensible articles and choose more creative and interesting solutions. Thus, the benefits are enjoyed by both the sender, who does not have to spend hours thinking about choosing the right words, and the recipient, who receives reliable information in a very visual form.
Infographics - from prehistory to the present day
Graphics and images are nothing new and even if we think that we have created something completely innovative, after some time it turns out that it was already there, but in a slightly different form. Let us recall the cave paintings created by our ancestors in prehistoric times. They were created for a specific purpose - to convey information. It can therefore be considered the beginning of the infographic. Later, maps appeared, i.e. also a source of certain information, which is represented by colors, signs and symbols. All kinds of charts were the next step towards modern infographics. As you can see, the road to its current form is a long process.
Infographics allow you to present complex content in a simple form. Sometimes you can read more from them than from a few pages of text. No wonder that their popularity is constantly growing, and entrepreneurs, sellers and bloggers decide to use this form of advertising or providing important content. If people were able to communicate in this way several hundred years ago, why do we defend ourselves so much against creating infographics on our own and commission them to people who deal with it? Lack of time, faith in yourself and your own abilities, or maybe it's just hard for us to believe that it is so simple?
Where to start? Preferably from the beginning, which is a GOOD PLAN
Without good organization of work, the results are much more difficult to achieve, and our daily duties become chaotic. Not everyone is a timely, reliable, thorough and well-organized person, but this does not mean that we cannot all be creative people. Before creating an infographic, make a good plan. You must know:
Who is the infographic for?
Where will it be shared?
What is its main purpose?
What do you want to convey on it?
What will you need and where can you find it?
What elements will the infographic contain?
What will it be like?
Only after answering the above questions, we can go a step further and start implementing our plans.
Infographics = good content + graphics
Remember that an infographic is not just an image, which many, sometimes even professionals, forget about. It is primarily content, meaning something important, reliable and valuable. Graphics are only a carrier of this information, not its main element.
You create an infographic for a specific purpose. It can be a way to establish or strengthen relationships with recipients, present difficult content in a pictorial way, it can also be a form of communication. Its character should be specified, whether it will be informative, entertaining or maybe educational. It depends on how the entire process of creating the infographics and the final result will be. When presenting statistical data, remember that they must be very well visualized and therefore easy to digest. All numbers and lines should be visible and preferably distinguished by colors. If we want to show the instruction manual or the possibility of using a given product in this way, we cannot do it chaotically, and the graphics cannot be too complicated. Everyone should easily read everything we wanted to convey. So look for simple symbols - there is a very fine line between originality and too much complexity.
Make it your pleasant duty
Designing and creating infographics can be not only simple, but also fun. You only need to treat the first project as a test of your strength and skills. There is no need to create perfect graphics that will appeal to the hearts of the recipients. There will be time for a standing ovation. Remember a moment when you started something new. It doesn't matter if you learned to ride a bike, solved a difficult math problem well, or created your own company - you didn't achieve it in one day. New ventures mean new challenges. When you create an infographic design it doesn't have to be perfectly drawn, but it should be at least decent.
Create a certain outline, mark what should be where. Nobody needs to be able to read it in this form, it is only a project for you, from which the final work is yet to emerge. Consider the colors, graphics, and text. You can choose whatever you like and think it will be the most suitable for your infographic. Don't be afraid of change. If you think that something does not work together, try to modify the layout, colors or add some other element. Also consider the text. Avoid long sentences, limit yourself to equivalents only.
You don't have to act alone, there are applications available
It is known that an infographic cannot be created on a piece of paper. You will need a good program that will enable you to create it and present it in the form you want. There are some interesting programs that offer many possibilities and are very easy to use. Here are some suggestions:
