Common retirement age in Europe

Service

Retirement is possible after reaching a certain age. This age has changed twice in Poland in recent years. The criterion of division was gender, both in our country and in other EU countries. The retirement age in Europe is similar in most countries.

Retirement age in Poland

As mentioned earlier, the retirement age has changed twice in the last 7 years. Originally, it was different for men and women and amounted to:

  • 60 years for women
  • 65 for men.

In 2013, the law entered into force, which not only increased the ceiling, but also made it equal for both sexes. However, it did not persist for long - after less than five years, it was returned to the original version, which is still in force today. Interestingly, we are the only one in Europe that lowered the retirement age, the rest of our neighbors are raising it.

Retirement age in Europe

Contrary to Poland, the general retirement age in Europe, or at least in most of its countries, is the same for men and women. The general age limit for a retirement pension is high. It is at the level of 65 or 67 years of age. The highest retirement age in Europe is in the UK and Ireland - 68 for both women and men. On the other hand, professional activity can be stopped most quickly in Moldova. Women will receive a pension there upon reaching the age of 57, and men upon reaching the age of 62. Detailed information on this subject is presented in the table below.
