How to build them if we see that our organization has a problem with it?

Commitment is understood in many ways - as job satisfaction, motivation to act, taking the initiative, identification with the company and acting not only in your own interest, but also in the interest of the entire enterprise.

No wonder that a committed employee is very valuable to the employer. He performs his tasks as best he can, develops and tries to be better and better. The better a committed employee works, the better the entire company functions, therefore taking care of this issue is very important.

Sources of employee involvement

How is it that some employees are more involved and others less? What influences it? Where does the commitment to the tasks entrusted to us come from?

A committed employee often has the opportunity to develop thanks to work, his tasks are not monotonous, he is faced with challenges, he also has a lot of freedom, can make decisions, many things are not imposed on him. At the same time, it is not that he is left alone, he can always count on the team, manager or boss, he knows that in the event of a problem, he can turn to someone for help and receive it.

In addition, commitment is also influenced by appreciating the employee, rewarding his hardships and it is not even about financial issues, but simply recognition, noticing that the employee is important for the functioning of the company, that he is not only a cog in the machine, but an important unit.

A committed employee is also not deprived of feedback from his superiors on how he performs his tasks. Ongoing assessment allows him to see what he still has to work on and what he is really good at, he is not left in the dark.

For an employee to feel commitment, his work must be developmental for him, he must feel that he is facing challenges. It is worth remembering that a challenge does not always mean a difficult task or a task that goes beyond its competence. Everything should be tailored to the specific person and his skills.

However, it is difficult to find a committed employee, if he does not believe in himself, he sees everything in black colors, he complains a lot. A committed employee is someone who is satisfied with himself and his achievements, with faith in his own abilities and, above all, with a positive attitude to life and work.

A committed employee is a proactive employee who takes matters into his own hands, does not wait for someone else's move, does not throw off responsibility, and does not go with the flow. Often, working for a committed person is also a passion, something that gives him great pleasure, because it is difficult to fulfill himself in something that he does not like at all.

How to build employee engagement?

We already know that employee involvement does not come out of nowhere. Superiors have a great influence on this state. So how do you build commitment? What can be done for this?

  1. Clear company purpose
    Many companies set themselves the goals they pursue. However, it is not always real and measurable, and it also happens that superiors do not share it with employees. This is a huge mistake. Employee engagement increases when they know the goal they are striving for. Thanks to this, they see meaning in their work, they are not disappointed when their task is less exciting, because they know that it is part of the path they have to go to go further. So, if the company has a specific goal, it is necessary to familiarize employees with it.

  2. Building mutual trust
    You cannot speak of commitment when there is no trust between colleagues. Of course, it cannot be blind and limitless, but only when we start to trust each other and show employees that we also trust them, in their way of work and taken steps, will the commitment increase.

  3. Challenging the employee
    When an employee does not have any challenges at work, he continues to do the same, in his eyes, simple and repetitive tasks, it will certainly be more difficult for him to get involved. It is worth ensuring that the work is heterogeneous, that the employee feels that he is developing and learns something new from task to task.

  4. Preparation for changes
    Changes are important and necessary in the functioning of every enterprise. However, if we plan them in our company, do not forget to familiarize employees with what is currently happening, count on their suggestions. People are afraid of changes, so in order to implement them with full effectiveness, you cannot confront employees with a fait accompli.

  5. Increasing the employee's decision-making
    If the employee has nothing to say, there is no greater responsibility, all decisions are made without him, he is usually dissatisfied. A committed employee knows that he has a certain autonomy, makes decisions, is responsible for something - it proves that he has confidence in what he is doing and his competences.

  6. Good feedback
    Commitment also builds good feedback, which we have already mentioned above. Without it, it is difficult to fully identify with the company, engage in its operation and view the performance of tasks not only through the prism of one's own benefits, but also the entire company.
